    The Legend of Baucis and Philemon in Yeşilyurt Village


    Baucis and Philemon were an old couple. They didn't have much, but they loved each other very much. One day two travelers came to their 'hut and poverty' (casa paupertatemque). They did not know that the guests were actually mortal forms of Jupiter and Mercury, but because Baucis and Philemon were very polite and pious (pia), the couple invited the passengers inside. These walking (petentes) forms of Jupiter and Mercury had already been translated from a thousand houses (mille domos). Baucis and Philemon, however, began to prepare the best they could (parabant) for the strangers, although they did not have much on hand. Hospitality was very important to the Romans, so in return for their kindness, Jupiter gave them what they wanted most: to die at the same time. He turned the old man and the woman (senex et femina) into two trees growing from the same trunk so that they could live and die together.

  • Ada Tepe Village

    The Story of Refika in Adatepe Village


    The end of the 19th century and the 20th century in the village of Adatepe.at the beginning of the century, there lived a Greek beauty with the nickname 'Refika'. Refika, who was very much loved among the Greek and Turkish community of the village, was both a beautiful and very cheerful girl. Dec. She sings songs at weddings and dances very well. Refika's beauty and benevolence have become a legend in the languages of Adatepe village as well as the surrounding villages. Especially during the olive season, in the fields where Refika worked, the villagers both collected olives and listened to Refika's songs. At weddings, Refika is definitely called as the head teacher and she is made to sing and dance. Until the First World War, the two communities lived together peacefully in the village of Adatepe. However, the War brought disasters to the village of Adatepe, as it did in all of Anatolia. With the war, there was Deconfliction between the Greek and Turkish communities of the village at first, and then mutual conflicts began. Despite all this turmoil, Refika still continued to be loved among the Turks, but however, as a result of the agreement between the Turkish and Greek governments at the end of the war, Refika had to leave the village along with other Greeks and Dec Decamp to Greece.

    Refika's departure from the village caused a great sadness among the Turks. Dec.
